About Walking Point
To walk point is to take responsibility for those who follow. Walking point is a lonesome mission and makes the young old before their time. Guiding others through danger to sanctuary is its greatest reward.
Walking Point was forged on the anvils of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Wisconsin protests of 2011, but rejects the blinders of ideology.
After he completed culinary school and an internship with a private chef in 2002, William Schuth put down his chef's knife, hung up his toque, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In February 2004 he augmented Echo Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines on their deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. William left the Marine Corps after his enlistment to continue his education, completing a BA in History and a certificate in Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies at UW-Madison. William returned to Madison as a graduate student and studied twentieth century United States military history. His research interests revolve around military and veteran culture; war and society; and veterans, class, and public policy. William is a member of the Deadly Writers Patrol and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He works at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
